In this post I will be looking at a range of media theories that can be applied to magazines. This will mean I can have an initial decision for which media theory I will likely use in the production of my magazine and website.
bell hooks theory can be applied as it is a women as the main image. This shows her to be of importance and the theory showed feminism to be a movement to end patriarchy. Having a women as the main image shows her to be of the same power as a man. Barthes semiology theory can also be applied through the main cover line. The signifier being the word "rebel" the denotation of this is that someone is doing something bad and what they are not meant to. whereas in this the word before is 'royal' , this suggests that princess Kate is going against the normal views of the royals and even though this may be a normal thing to do in the yes of the royals it is bad.
Halls theory can be applied to this front cover , this is because it shows that defining stereotypes creates a representation. The way anti-stereotypes are shown in this front cover is by having Borris Johnson cowering in a corner this shows an anti-stereotype as white men are meant to be seen as having a significant amount of power and cowering in a corner shows a sign of weakness.
The media theories I will be using are Barthes semiology theory. This theory is the study of signs I will use this through images to represent the way cornovirus is shown and the way mental health are shown through the media industry. I will also be using the gender performativity theory to show the anti- sterotype of men as mental health within men is not talked about enough.
