Statement of intent

 

How do you intend to use the four areas of the media theoretical framework to communicate meaning and meet the requirements of your chosen brief?

I will be making a current affairs magazine called “New society” by Dennis publishing. I chose the name New society as it relates to the genre of the magazine current affairs as it will discuss topics that are relevant to the new society. This means topics that people aged 16-25 see as relevant and an important current affair. For the first issue of my magazine I will be having a woman wearing a coronavirus mask. This will be a close up of her face to show how everyone can connect with her as the whole world is going through the same pandemic and feeling the fear of the virus. The second issue will be on a male who is suffering depression. This will also be a close up of half his face to show the raw emotion he is going through. The other half is not showing as he is trying to hide his emotions, this is to show how the media usually hide male depression and only focus on women’s depression. In addition, when looking at other current affairs magazines you can notice that they all have a specific colour scheme across their articles. For example, “the critic” has a white and neural colour theme on their front covers and on their website. This helped me in deciding that I will use a grey colour scheme on both my front covers and will use blue to make it stand out. The blue will show how the topics should be seen as important as it is bright, and blue can represent trust showing that the newspaper is to be trusted and the information is reliable. I am using both male and female to show diversity of gender and I also will be using diversity of race in my website as an article on my website will be on racism as this is an important current affair. This will mean that the audience can feel connected as it shows equality. Intertextuality will be shown on my magazine front covers through the cover lines. These references will be to books for example links to JK Rowling. This is important to show as audiences can see how other media products in their world can be connected to current affairs.

How do you intend to link your media products to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the digitally convergent nature of your media production?

To create a link with my current affairs magazine and linking it to digital convergence I will have a website that will be connected to my magazine. This website will have more information on some of the stories and even extra content. It will follow the same colour scheme as my website and there will be links to my website on the front covers by having the web address on the front. There will also be a link from the website to the issues by having both issues on the website to be viewed from there.
