Institutional research

In this post I am going to be researching the media institution linked to my brief (Dennis publishing) , paying close attention to what type of company they are and the media products they produce. I will also look to see what the companies ethics are and how they are reflected in the products as this can give me ideas on how t link it into my own magazine and website. By doing this research it will help me produce a media product that reflects the style more effectively. The name of the company I should be making my product for is called Dennis publishing. They were funded in 1974.The media types they produce are print and online media. It is an independent company it is also a parent company and is also apart of a conglomerate. The brands they are involved with are ; the big issue , the week , mincraft world , web user and many more. This company makes money by publishing text from other companies and selling the magazines. They also are funded by investors. In 2016 Dennis publishing...

Media theory research

In this post I will be looking at a range of media theories that can be applied to magazines. This will mean I can have an initial decision for which media theory I will likely use in the production of my magazine and website. bell hooks theory can be applied as it is a women as the main image. This shows her to be of importance and the theory showed feminism to be a movement to end patriarchy. Having a women as the main image shows her to be of the same power as a man. Barthes semiology theory can also be applied through the main cover line. The signifier being the word "rebel" the denotation of this is that someone is doing something bad and what they are not meant to. whereas in this the word before is 'royal' , this suggests that princess Kate is going against the normal views of the royals and even though this may be a normal thing to do in the yes of the royals it is bad.  Halls theory can be applied to this front cover , this is because it shows that defining s...

Media language and representation

In this post I am going to be looking at media language and representations in two current affairs magazines and looking at how they use media language and how they use media language to show representations to the intended audience. This research is important as it will show me how I can use media language in my magazine and how the media language may help me to show representations as well. I will be looking at the layout, typography , the use of language and the use of images. I will also be looking at media language on websites to help me when making my website for my magazine.     Media language is used in multiple ways throughout this magazine front cover . The colour purple suggests wealth and powerfulness , therefore the lighting bolts coming through the purple sky show the shattering future for Britain's wealth and economy due to the Politian’s. This is also shown in the cartoon image of the Politian’s jumping out of the airplane suggesting that they need ...

Intertextuality

In this Intertextuality research task I will be looking at how a range of media products in the category of 'Magazines' use intertextuality to appeal to a wide range of audiences.  I will also be highlighting what makes these references to other media texts effective. Intertextuality can be shown in a number of ways throughout this front cover. The first way it is shown is through the main cover line " the winner takes it all" this shows reference towards Abba music and they are using it to mock the people they are talking about. They also use the heads of politicians on top of the bodies of the band from "mamma mia" linking them again to the music to represent them as not serious due to their decisions. These all show intertextuality and it is used to mock the people and also bring interest to another type of audience. There are a number of ways that intertextuality is shown throughout this front cover. One way in which this is shown is through the social...
